Etra Masi nasce a Napoli. Le mille stratificazioni storiche di questa città forgiano la fascinazione per l'arte antica e dal sapore orientale e alimentano, nei primi anni della sua formazione, la consapevolezza che la mescolanza tra culture origini valore “altro”. Prosegue gli studi a Bologna, dove si laurea in Scultura presso l'Accademia di Belle Arti; qui amplia il tema delle “contaminazioni” e indaga il rapporto tra scultura e architettura. Con l’arrivo a Faenza viene a contatto con la tradizione ceramica, approfondendo la conoscenza delle tecniche artigiane.
La ricerca di influenze stilistiche lontane nel tempo e nello spazio (culture preistoriche, terre d'Asia e d'Africa) conduce Masi a formulare un linguaggio che intesse miti ed elementi ancestrali: legno, metallo, stoffa e terra.
Etra Masi was born in Naples. The thousand historical stratifications of this city, are the main reason of her fascination for ancient art with an oriental twist and nurture, in the early years of her education, the awareness that the melting of different cultures creates “added value”. She continues her studies in Bologna, where she graduates in Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Art; here she carries on her search on “contaminations” and looks closer into the relationship between sculpture and architecture. Arriving in Faenza, she gets in touch with the ceramic tradition, deeping her knowledge of the craft techniques.
The search for remote stylistic influences both in time and space (prehistoric cultures, Far East, African art) leads Masi to the formulation of a language that weaves myths and ancestral elements: wood, metal, fabric and earth.
